Overcoming OCD: You Are Always One Step Away From The Escape

Overcoming OCD

OCD gives patients painful experiences. Moreover, while many medications that alleviate the symptoms are available, they are often not 100% effective in inducing the complete remission of OCD symptoms. However, all OCD patients are, in reality, only one step away from the complete remission. In this post, I am going to elaborate on this statement.

One Step Away

When attacked by OCD thoughts, OCD patients often become unbearably anxious and end up performing the compulsions, despite knowing that the compulsions are entirely meaningless.

However, even though it is extremely difficult not to perform the compulsions, any OCD patient is indeed only one step away from the complete cure because by ignoring what seems to be a life-threatening anxiety, OCD patients can rapidly slide out of their illness.

It will be extremely difficult to ignore the obsession for the first time. However, once you manage this daunting task, it will be much easier to take the second step. Two successful, consecutive steps will make the third step much easier, the fourth step easier and so on. Eventually, you will be without OCD.

To people suffering from OCD, I want to give one advice. It is okay to try to ignore the obsession and fail. You may fail 20, 30 or 40 times. If you continue to try, you will eventually manage to ignore even the most threatening obsession and get healthy again. Please, do not take failure for granted. You are always with the ability to win against the OCD.
