What do you think is the best way to permanently lose weight?
Low calorie diet? Rigorous exercise?
For decades, people have believed that low calorie intake and rigorous physical activity are keys to losing weight. However, recent advances in medicine have revealed that they aren’t. In order to understand the true solution to obesity, we must first accept the rather astonishing shift in paradigm: obesity is not the result of gaining weight, but is a cause of weight gain.
Yes, you heard that right. It is not true that you become obese when you eat a lot and gain weight. You gain weight when you are obese. Therefore, obesity is a disease that causes weight gain, not a condition caused by weight gain.
What do you think your body loves the most? My answer would be a single word: homeostasis. Your body wants to keep your body temperature at around 36 degrees Celsius whether you are at a cold place or a hot place. Your body wants to keep your blood pH the same all the time. Likewise, your body tries to keep your body weight the same all the time, at a specific value. The value is determined by your level of insulin resistance and metabolic rate.
Let’s say there is a man 75 kilograms in weight. Would the man lose weight if he does 10 hours of swimming a day? No, because the body wants to keep the man’s weight at 75kg. This is possible because the body keeps daily calorie expenditure the same regardless of the person’s daily activity level. Would the man lose weight if he starves? Yes, but only temporarily. As soon as the man starts eating proper meals, his weight would skyrocket. This is because human body lowers its metabolic rate when the calorie intake is low. This presumably is an adaptation made to survive the times of famine.
Therefore, we can’t cure obesity by increasing our daily activity level and lowering our daily calorie intake. If these really were the remedies for obesity, we would have solved the problem of obesity over the past several decades. Have we? The answer is obvious.
The fastest way to permanently lose weight is to increase the level of insulin resistance and metabolic rate. Both can be solved through psychemyo approach. Don’t worry if you do not recognize the term because I invented the term.
The central principle of this approach is very simple: to be healthy, we must make all 650 skeletal muscles of our bodies healthy. Since muscles are major consumers of blood glucose, having all 650 skeletal muscles healthy would lead to lower insulin sensitivity. Moreover, muscles are the major participants of metabolism.
Many health problems occur when we do not have all 650 skeletal muscles of our bodies healthy. Whenever we are having a bad posture, we are only using some of the 650. Maybe 500. 400 would be worse. 300 would be even worse.
Psychemyo approach accentuates the importance of having all 650 skeletal muscles healthy. If we have all 650 skeletal muscles healthy, we will automatically get good posture and the best version of our appearances. I’m planning to continue posting about the psychemyo approach, so keep visiting the blog for more information. Thanks for reading and see you later.
